He sate upon the old weathered stump
Obviously thinking as he whittled
Some might think him just a grump
But his acuity should not be belittled
His eyes twinkled with a real sense of humor
A wrinkled old face foretold his years
The wisdom here alleged was not just rumor
He had earned the respect of all of his peers
Grandpa is what I called him back then I was
intimidated with respect and awe
He was the example of what to expect of men
One of the most honorable men I ever saw
